We Deserve a Smoke Break by Amelia Wiygul

maraschino by Nurah Lambert

I want to be where the wild things are
Mascara smeared, brain frenzied
In a teeming forest of my monsters
Confronting me for who I am
A sham, my facade slipping away
Like tumbling silk
with my sober speech and worry
They soothe my molasses mind
Dripping with bitter, bitter fret
And I succumb, syrupy and melting
And wear all I held clandestine
On my parting cherry lips
Like a maraschino, sweet and empty
I tell them who I am, what I am:
A pitted fruit, sweet and empty
Yet full of secrets when I am tame
